WSU is building up systems and support around Open Education Resources in an effort to reduce classroom materials costs for our students.

Because students cite financial struggles as their biggest barrier to academic success, WSU faculty, students, staff, and administrators are working together on solutions to reduce the cost of classroom materials at WSU.

The Course Materials Cost Reduction Presidential Task Force collaborated on a report submitted to then-Interim President Dan Bernardo that identified challenges and potential solutions for WSU students and faculty tackling the cost of books and other instructional materials.

Several programs and initiatives have already resulted from the Task Force’s initial report. Affordable Learning Grants, the OpenStax Partnership, and the Open Textbook Network are all resources available to WSU faculty interested in exploring OER and OER development.
