Child and Dependent Care

WSU Children’s Center

Washington State University provides day care through the Children’s Center.  The Center practices a developmentally appropriate approach to early education as advocated by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The curriculum emphasizes learning as an interactive process. The Center’s goal for early education is to ensure that children acquire the foundations for healthy development and learning.

Childcare Resource and Referral

A website is maintained by Whitman and Asotin Counties to provide information on licensed child care in the area along with tips for selecting a child care provider. The counties also help child care providers by offering professional training, educational scholarships, and many other resources.

Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP)

DCAP allows you to set aside a “before tax” portion of your gross earnings to use for eligible dependent care expenses. DCAP allows you to save on expenses such as day care, babysitting, general purpose day camps, pre-kindergarten expenses, registration fees, and in-home care for an older dependent living with you. DCAP reduces the amount of the federal withholding and social security taxes taken from your paycheck.
